Pearl Days

Nothing can shine and show completely
when it’s all covered in dust
as much as time can burn the colors off my
paper photographs
every moment I treasure
I can see and trust
and everyone leaves a tear and a scar and a star
on a map currently tracing in real time
and whether I show it or not
I can’t say it’s not me, I won’t say it’s not mine

and no doubt I’m going to remember all the flames of the fire we’ve got
no doubt I’ll surely remember
I don’t think I’ll need to recall

now if I could, I wouldn’t want to see this sadness falling in,
I’d turn away `n rise again to find in every single thing
a new source of joy, something to rebuild
a little courage in me, a little something to feel
to add on a map currently tracing in real time,
and whether i like or not
